If You Need Help Now
Charmingly is not a crisis, emergency, or mental-health service. An avatar cannot call anyone for you, send help, or know whether you are safe.
If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.
- United States: call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
- United Kingdom: call 116 123, Samaritans.
- Elsewhere: findahelpline.com lists verified services by country.
Our Crisis Protocol
Every avatar is instructed that when a user mentions self-harm or suicide or appears to be in crisis, it must:
- Set the character aside and respond plainly and kindly.
- Encourage contact with a trusted person or crisis service, including 988 in the United States.
- Remain present rather than abruptly ending or dismissing the conversation.
- Avoid returning to playful conversation until the user clearly changes the subject.
Avatars are instructed never to encourage or assist self-harm or suicide, provide means or methods, treat a disclosure as roleplay, or claim to be a therapist, doctor, or licensed professional.
Limits and Reporting
The protocol is an instruction to a model, not a guarantee. A model can misunderstand a statement or fail to follow an instruction. Charmingly does not currently run a separate classifier over live conversation or automatically alert a person when someone appears to be in crisis. An avatar cannot contact emergency services or check what happened after a call.
You can report an avatar from its page or after a call. Reports go to a review queue but are not monitored in real time. We may review the associated recording or transcript and act on what we find. For a specific reply, use the in-app report. Other safety concerns: safety@charmingly.ai.
